Sponsorship FAQ

Are my contributions to Project Hope & Charité tax-deductible?
Yes. An end-of-year statement is sent which documents all the sponsor’s giving throughout the year. Project Hope & Charité’s parent organization is Grace Brethren International Missions which is audited each year.
Does my child have other sponsors?
No, you are the only sponsor your child has.
How can I develop a relationship with my child?
Sponsors are encouraged to correspond with their child 2-3 times per year. Sending a photo to your child is an excellent way for you to become “real” to your child.
How long should my sponsorship last?
Ideally, sponsorships continue for as long as a child is in the PH&C program (around age 18 years), but if for some reason you cannot continue this aspect of your ministry to your child, please contact PH&C at your earliest convenience so we can start looking for another sponsor.

If a child moves, or for whatever reason leaves the PH&C before completing the program, that child’s sponsor will be offered another child to sponsor.
How much does it cost to sponsor a child?
About a dollar a day -- $30 per month or $360 per year.
May I send gifts to my child?
Sponsors are encouraged to send monetary gifts of $5-10 to their child at Christmas time (ideally sent by December 1 to Project Hope & Charité).

- Important Consideration to help you give to your child: The level of poverty in the Central African Republic is such that the generosity of a sponsor can soon put the sponsored child above the situation of most of the children around him. A well-intended, but perhaps too generous (for the CAR context) gift can inadvertently create problems between a sponsored a child and his peers.
What are a sponsor’s responsibilities?
- A sponsor develops relationship with his/her child through correspondence
- Correspondence between sponsor and child along with periodic updates from PH&C offer insight into how the sponsor can minister to the child through informed prayer on their behalf.
- Sponsors send financial support that allows PH&C the funds to keep the child in PH&C’s program.
What happens if I must discontinue my sponsorship?
Contact Project Hope & Charité (email: phc@gbim.org) and we will immediately start looking for another sponsor for your child. Your child will remain in PH&C’s program - there will be no interuption of your orphan’s care.
What specific benefits does the child I sponsor receive?
Among the benefits sponsored children receive through PH&C are education, health care, training in the Word, regular contact with a caring adult, attendance at Sunday School in a Grace Brethren church, clothing, food, weekly participation in orphan group meetings and participation in the programs their orphan groups do. Less concrete but just as real benefits include self-confidence, social skills, and often a healthier and more stable home environment depending on orphan care-providers willingness to participate in PH&C’s development opportunities.
Will my child correspond with me?
Yes, children are encouraged to write their sponsor 2 times per year. PH&C workers on the ground try to send new photos at least once a year. In addition, PH&C sends out quarterly updates in the mail and 3-4 times per year sends news updates via email.
